… to find out the identity of Miss Hollywood?

Apparently, more than text message. I just asked Carbon Leaf’s Barry Privett to speak out about the subject of his band’s current single, and the following ensued:

SHAWN
Ok, who’s miss hollywood? I need the inside scoop for mt listeners. Right now!!!

May 29 12:51:47 PM
BARRY
I will never tell.

May 29 12:53:59 PM
SHAWN
Oh come now, I’ll only share it with a few hundred thousand people now, Carly Simon.

Hmmph.

I’ll find out… just give me time.

jayleno

Today is not just any Friday, it’s Jay Leno’s last night at the Tonight Show!

In celebration of the transition from Leno to Conan, I’m re-posting videos from my *exclusive* tour of the Tonight Show. I can’t believe it has been almost four months since I went to L.A. with Chris Isaak…

… and I certainly would be remissed if I didn’t pay homage to Jay’s parking spot.

Goodbye Jay.

Heeeeere’s Conan!

This very well be another Summer of Dave.

Dave Matthews is everywhere with his new release, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King. The CD pre-release through davematthewsband.com ends tomorrow, and the disc is set to be released this Tuesday (June 2nd).

How cool is this? A Starbucks Entertainment team member posted a blog regarding listening parties for the new DMB release, and 18 Starbucks locations were picked to release the new album before June 2nd! While Seattle locations weren’t selected, one of Vancouver’s locations was…

Store 158 – 2193 West 41st Avenue, Vancouver, British Columbia

If you absolutely crave Dave, check with that store for details about their exclusive listening party of Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King.

Here’s a treat to get you revved up for the new disc. It’s an exclusive version of “Gravedigger,” live from the Mountain Music Lounge.

Dave’s coming to Seattle for a Labor Day weekend at the Gorge (with G. Love and Yonder Mountain String Band to open, no less). We’re giving away tickets to the whole weekend of shows, camping, and what the hey, we’ll throw in the new CD too. Keep listening in for your chance to be part of yet another Summer of Dave!

. . . is to help out at Northwest Harvest. Today is Make A Difference Day at The Mountain, and a bunch of us — mostly the fantastic behind-the-scenes people you never hear on the air — went down to Northwest Harvest’s giant warehouse in Kent, where we sorted and boxed non-perishable foods for food banks to distribute to hungry people in our state. Northwest Harvest secures 18 million pounds of nutritious food each year for distribution to more than 300 food programs and elementary schools across Washington State; today we packed up 12,000 pounds of food and provided a day’s worth of meals for 4,000 people. A great organization, and a really fun and satisfying morning for our Mountain team!

Check out this great Marley-esque tune that arrived today just in time to be your anthem for the summer.

It’s from Matisyahu, the Pennsylvania-bred Hasidic Jewish reggae musician who received quite a bit of attention for his single, “King Without a Crown.”

I’d love to know your thoughts on this interesting character, Matisyahu. Send me your thoughts in the comment box below!

new music sampler

From the desk of Kat, VP of Content…

That’s right! I’m back at The Mountain with exciting news about this year’s New Music Sampler.

I’ve got the master copy in my hands (as seen above), and we’re in the process of putting together copies for you! Expect to hear great music from the likes of Brett Dennen, Carbon Leaf, and many more emerging artists.

I was going to hide the disc from Shawn, but she managed to find it… from what I could discern, she plans on leaking songs in the next few weeks right here on the blog. She also plans on playing tracks on the air each week leading up to the disc’s release. So listen in for that!

angeltaylor

Earlier today, Shawn played a track from upcoming artist Angel Taylor, whose song “Make me Believe” is on this year’s CD. Angel’s a pop singer-songwriter who has been seen with the likes of Adele, Brett Dennen, and Brandi Carlile.

It’s me on the ferry to Whidbey Island on Memorial Day weekend with my dog Zoe in the back seat.
Is she nervous? Bored? Mellow? Watch and decide for yourself. Just don’t expect a lot of action.

shawnpuppet

Any fan of my weekly blog feature ‘Hey Genius’ knows that I love puppets. Who doesn’t??

I love them so much I am hoping for 1 decent hour of rain this weekend so that I can head over to EMP for an exhibit opening tomorrow that explores the wonder and genius of Jim Henson. Big Bird, Grover, Animal, The Count… some of your most beloved characters, you know the ones who taught you to spell, sing, love your neighbor even if they live in a trash can or have green fur, will be on display in drawing or actual form. I want to squeeze a muppet, and I will try, which means I might spend all weekend in the slammer. But it would be worth it!

More info about all things puppets can be found here.
