He’s the son of soft-rock legend Kenny Loggins, he was the winner of MTV’s Rock The Cradle, and he’s putting out a new album called Time To Move in July. Crosby dropped by for a quick chat and a couple of songs (you can hear the entire session here.)In this clip, he tells me about making music at the age of 7, and why he didn’t become an astronaut:

And here’s a song he wrote when he was 17, attempting to create a James Taylor vibe. (Listen for his spot-on Brett Dennen impersonation!)

Super climber Ed Viesturs summited Mt Everest today. He could not be bothered to bring a phone at that elevation, but he did bring the ipod I programmed for him. Hooray and congratulations to Ed.

When he got to camp about 6 hours after the summit, he called Jodi and Marty to give them the good news. Listen in:

VIESTURS

When Ed returns, we’ll find out the exact tune he was listening to when he hit the peak.

An amazing and hilarious star-studded song from the season finale of 30 Rock — Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow, Steve Earle, Michael McDonald, Mary J. Blige, Moby, Clay Aiken, Adam Levine, Rhett Miller, Cyndi Lauper and more — doing a brilliant parody of We Are The World-type all-star charity songfests.

. . . I have to get my dog Zoe into the house. And when it’s sunny and warm out, she loves to park herself on my deck, and she’s not interested in leaving that spot. This requires a little persuasion on my part. Here’s how it goes:

Amy, Charlie and I went to Westport for some surfing this weekend. We had a blast! Watch these 4 super short videos and get an idea how great the weather was, how beautiful the beaches are, and how much fun can be had just a couple of hours outside of Seattle.

On the bluff above the 8th Annual Clean Water Classic Surf Comptition:

After-party at Chateau Westport (Charlie says thanks for the royal treatment!)

Bye bye to beautiful Westport

I’m off for the weekend with cohorts Amy and Charlie to check out the Surfrider Foundation’s Clean Water Classic – the largest surf contest in the Pacific Northwest.

The event is a benefit for the Pacific Northwest chapters of the Surfrider Foundation. Proceeds from the Clean Water Classic directly fund campaigns and programs of the Foundation, and they work to better the aquatic environments of Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia.

You can check out the happenings of the Seattle Surfrider chapter here.

Pretty cool stuff. I’ll be back with more details from the event next week!

It’s Friday… why not give you free music?

That’s Coldplay’s thinking, anyway. They’re giving away an album, LeftRightLeftRightLeft, as a “thank you for the fans” both online and at their 2009 tour stops (festivals excluded).

Click here to get your hands on the free tunes.

. . . which is why I wanted to show you this video from last December. Some guys at a Doughty show at a club in Woodstock, New York, were a little, um . . . over served, and instead of letting them wreck the show for the rest of the audience, Mike kicked them out. Amazing! (Warning: adult language here.)

Mike Doughty will chat and play live in the Carter Subaru Mountain Music Lounge today at 3:15pm. Bonus material and behind-the-scenes extras will be here.

Anya Marina and I have a lot in common, except for one tiny difference. She’s a rock star:

Check out Anya’s great disc Slow & Steady Seduction: Phase II, available everywhere!

Anya Marina is a singer/songwriter from San Diego who dropped by The Mountain to introduce herself and, for the benefit of our staff, play a few songs from her new album Slow & Steady Seduction Phase II.. I sat down with her and chatted for a few minutes, and the first thing she discussed was a facial injury she sustained on tour:

Anya was actually a disc jockey in San Diego until recently, so we compared notes and revealed some behind-the-scenes radio hijinks:

Anya brought an electric guitar and an iPod with her rhythm section, and kicked out a sweet live version of her song Vertigo:
