March Madness
Posted in: Uncategorized
Well, sure, we’re all excited about making our brackets for NCAA hoops action. I won my office pool last year! But the March Madness I’m refering to is all the great shows rolling thru town: David Gray, Steven Page WITH Anya Marina, just to name a few.
One show I don’t want you to overlook is happening March 9 at The Showbox Market. Joshua Radin headlines. You might remember him from a Sunday Brunch showcase we did with him a few years back. But the 2 openers are totally worth your attention.
You may have heard a Cary Brothers song before…do you own The Garden State Soundtrack? Of course you do! Cary contributed the song Blue Eyes. Click the link below to hear Cary’s latest song:
Cary Brothers – Break Off The Bough
Also on the bill is an Emerging Artist named Laura Jansen. Don’t know too much about her other than she takes a nice photo, wears groovy boots and has at least one killer tune. Check out Single Girls by clicking on the link below.
Laura Jansen – Single Girls – Radio
If we bump into each other at the show on March 9th, you can buy me a mocktail ; )
Don’t forget, for up to the minute music and Music Director tweets, follow me on twitter. I’m @askthemd

Podcast 223 – Marc Maron, Comedian and Kate Stewart, Polyamorous Therapist
Posted in: Marty's Podcast, Uncategorized
Today’s show formula: Open with a call from comedian Marc Maron as he makes his way to the airport for a weekend at Laughs in Kirkland (Friday and Saturday, February 25th & 26th). Maron who’s become a trailblazer in the world of podcasting (WTF with Marc Maron), credits the show – and his uninterrupted Twitter output – with saving his life,
Then we’re joined by Kate Stewart, a University of Washington Experimental College Instructor, who teaches classes on the art of flirting: Flirting 101. Equally as intriguing as her forums on flirting, is her day job as a psycho therapist specializing in polyamorous clients – people who are in long term relationships, but with more than one person.

Fly Away With New Los Lonely Boys
Posted in: Uncategorized
Sure, their songs are great, and their tight brotherly harmonies are other worldly but, simply put, these Boys are one of the most entertaining live performers you’ll ever see. We’re been in love with LLB since their first Ola almost a decade ago.
So we’re delighted that they’re back with a rocking new song called Fly Away from the album Rockpango due March 29. Can a tour be far behind?
Click below to hear the new tune and let me know what you think!

Podcast 222 – Bob Schneider
Posted in: Marty's Podcast, Uncategorized
Certain performers were made for the podcast medium, count Bob Schneider among them. The Austin musical fixture whose new CD “A Perfect Day” comes out on April 19, 2011, joins us today for an uncensored, at times hilarious at times melancholy, romp thru a blizzard of topics. From Schneider’s workaholic personality, which makes him a prolific songwriter and a frequent sketcher of penises, to his childhood attending American schools in Germany, that he describes as ex-pat camps for teen thugs, Schneider reveals himself to be thoughtful, funny, talented, disturbed, and not so good at geography. This is a show you should not miss!

Podcast 221 – John Popper from Blues Traveler and Sue Quigley
Posted in: Marty's Podcast, Uncategorized
John Popper of Blues Traveler fame joins us this morning for a wild talk about his new band, John Popper and the Duskray Troubadours (Neumos, Wednesday, February 23rd), and to clear the air about his arrest in Eastern Washington four years ago for racing down the highway at 110 mph in a siren-equipped Mercedes with a collection of guns in the trunk and a gram of marijuana in the back. It’s a hilarious retelling of a story that VH1 ranks at #84 on the list of the Most Shocking Moments in Music.
Plus, we host a live performance from charming Westside singer-songwriter Sue Quigley (The Mix in Georgetown, Thursday, February 24th).

Meet James Blake!
Posted in: Uncategorized
No, not the American tennis sensation.
The next big thing out of the UK:
This guy isn’t your average run of the mill singer songwriter or purveyor of neo soul. This guy is freaky deaky in a way that makes you wonder if your cd got warped in manufacturing. Blips bloops and skips mingle with quietly reflective lyrics for an utterly modern and singular sound. Here’s the most palatable song on the disc.
Limit To Your Love
What do YOU think??

You know how it’s OK to like country as long as it’s genuine, old-school country. Loretta Lynn, good. Billy Ray Cyrus, blech. By that measure, and other more sophisticated ones, it’s OK to like today’s podcast because we turn the spotlight on Seattle’s Zoe Muth and the Lost High Rollers. Zoe’s songs ooze with the troubled times and broken hearts of classic country & western. She and her band are among the 10 acts participating in the Gimme Shelter benefit to end homelessness on Thursday, February 24th at the Showbox at The Market.
